Squirrel Girl: What Anna Kendrick Could Look Like as Doreen Green

We are living in a golden age of superhero films. In the past decade, the genre has gone from niche novelty to one of the forefront examples of Hollywood tentpole entertainment. Big risks have resulted in bigger payoffs, with obscure and downright weird comic properties like Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool becoming runaway successes and defying conventional Hollywood logic. Unless the superhero bubble bursts, things only look to be getting weirder moving forward, with Marvel’s Doctor Strange and DC’s Suicide Squad set to come out this year.

With superhero films not only often reputed as successful crowd pleasers, but also legitimately good films, it’s no surprise that name brand actors are petitioning for, being asked about, or simply being fancast as yet-to-be-filmed heroes. Just yesterday, starlet Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) was asked what superhero she would play, to which she responded that she would be up for the role of Squirrel Girl.

Ask the internet and ye will receive! We already have our first fan mock up of what she might look like in the role, courtesy of graphic artist and Photoshop magician BossLogic:

BossLogic is the concept artist behind a number of recent fan imaginings, including Bryan Cranston as Zordon in Power Rangers, Supergirl‘s Superman, Brie Larson playing Captain Marvel, and Donald Glover as alt Spider-Man Miles Morales. While some of these might be the closest we’ll get to seeing the actual thing, for the more likely iterations – like Cranston and perhaps even Larson – it will be interesting to see how close his guess comes to the final product.

As for Doreen Green, a.k.a. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, there certainly hasn’t been any rumblings from Marvel that a film or TV series is in development, but stranger things have certainly happened. She recently topped our list of crazy things that could happen in Marvel’s Phase 4, and the character has a passionate fanbase that would certainly rally around her on-screen appearance, whether it’s a Netflix cameo babysitting for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, or on an IMAX screen in 3D. Either way, Kendrick would likely be well accepted in the role. She has recently proven she can open a film, and has a fun and funny presence that would likely jive well with a weirder Marvel property.

How many nuts would you pay to see Kendrick as Squirrel Girl on screen? Let us know in the comments section, and stay tuned to Screen Rant for all your updates on Mighty Marvel Fancasting.
