Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is Headed to Comic-Con
The biggest convention in the entertainment industry is getting ready to begin in just a matter of weeks. Comic-Con International in San Diego will once more witness the arrival of artists, exhibitors, thousands of pop culture enthusiasts from all around the world, and will also be the place where we get the first look at some of the most anticipated movies, TV series, and other products related to the pop culture industry.
The legendary Hall H room at SDCC has become the #1 place for the big studios to share their upcoming releases and bring surprises to fans – who, by the way, have to go through their own hell in order to get a seat, as it’s no easy task to secure a place when the demand is so high. This year is no exception, and Hall H will welcome one of the most anticipated movies in the sci-fi genre on the first day of the convention: Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
EuropaCorp announced their Comic-Con appearance with a panel in Hall H on Thursday, July 21st, to present exclusive footage of Valerian. Those confirmed to appear are director Luc Besson, producer Virginie Besson-Silla, stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, and moderator Josh Horowitz. The announcement teases “potential surprise guests” for the first public sneak peek at this epic sci-fi adventure.
The synopsis of Valerian reads as follows:
“Special operatives Valerian & Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s 17 million inhabitants have converged over time – uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. But not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives – unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.”
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is based on the French comic book Valérian and Laureline, created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières in 1967. It follows a spatio-temporal agent (Valerian, played by DeHaan) and his colleague (Laureline, played by Delevingne) as they travel the universe through time and space. Together they defend the planets of the Terran Empire in a utopian vision of the 28th century.
The cast also includes Ethan Hawke, Clive Owen, and Rihanna, making them possible choices for the “surprise guests” that will pop up at the panel. SDCC will definitely kick off on the right foot with a big panel like Valerian at Hall H, so fans better get ready to stand in line to secure a place, as this will be one of those panels you won’t want to miss.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets opens in U.S. theaters on July 21st, 2017.
